About Current account balance (% of GDP)

The current account balance as a share of GDP adds up net exports of goods and services, net primary income (such as interest and dividends from abroad) and net secondary income (such as transfers with nothing in return). A positive value means the country earns more from abroad than it pays. Japan's surplus comes mainly from income on its overseas investments rather than from trade.
