About Consumer Price Index 2020-Base Consumer Price Index — All items, less fresh food (Index, All Japan)
The Consumer Price Index, published monthly by the Statistics Bureau, tracks prices of the goods and services households buy (currently on the 2020 base). It is the headline price measure: the year-on-year change of the index excluding fresh food (core CPI) is watched as the gauge of progress toward the Bank of Japan's 2% target. Both the nationwide index and the earlier-published Tokyo ku-area index are included.
